It Wasn’t ‘Bloodless’
Many references to the overthrow of Hawai‘i’s constitutional monarch on January 17, 1893 say it was ‘bloodless,’ suggesting no one was injured.
However, that is not the case; “A policeman named Leialoha was shot in the breast by John Good about 2:30 o'clock this afternoon on Fort street.” Leialoha was afterwards taken to the hospital, and in time entirely recovered from his wound.
